With the theme “Innovative actions to combat challenges related to the Quota Law”, journalist Vitória Faria, content analyst at Amazônia Vox, had her report proposal selected in the 6th call for proposals Association of Education Journalists (Jeduca). Among the 69 proposals presented and evaluated by the Judging and Editorial Committee, 12 were selected from all over Brazil, including one from Vitória, in Porto Velho (RO). The selected journalists will receive grants to produce reports related to education.
The initiative of the notice seeks to encourage the production of journalistic content that addresses the challenges and solutions in Brazilian public education, and Vitória's proposal aims to analyze the retention policies for indigenous students in Higher Education Institutions (IES) in the Legal Amazon.
With a solutions-focused perspective, the report should seek not only to map the challenges faced by indigenous students, but also to highlight initiatives that have promoted the retention of these students in higher education institutions. The goal is to give visibility to the actions that are making a difference in the academic lives of these young people, encouraging other institutions to also adopt similar measures.
"As someone who graduated thanks to public policies, being selected by Jeduca's public notice represents a great achievement for me," says Vitória. She emphasizes that indigenous peoples in the Amazon face great challenges in entering higher education and integrating their traditional knowledge into academia. "This is the moment to show how they are leading solutions and creating new opportunities that were not offered to them," she concludes.
In addition to being a member of the Amazônia Vox team, Vitória Faria is a journalist from Rondônia who graduated from Faculdade UniSapiens, with a focus on climate science, politics and human rights. She has experience in creating documentary and multimedia scripts, and in producing and directing audiovisual content at Casaquatro. Previously, she contributed to newsrooms such as G1 Rondônia, CBN Amazônia and TV Meridional Band.
Amazônia Vox is a publication committed to covering topics relevant to the Amazon region. The selection of Vitória Farias' proposal by Jeduca's call for proposals is a recognition of the team's serious and dedicated work in giving voice to fundamental issues regarding education in the development of the Amazon.
