1st International Seminar on Sustainable Use and Food Technologies for Family Fish Farming in the Amazon (Sustenta)
The event will take place in the Inpa Science Auditorium, from 8 am to 5 pm, and will bring together experts from the Brazilian, Peruvian, Colombian and Bolivian Amazon to discuss innovations and sustainable solutions for fish farming.

Coda Amazonia now open for registration
Belém will host the regional edition of the Conference on Data Journalism and Digital Methods (Coda Amazônia). Established as the main regional data event, it is organized by Escola de Dados, an educational program of Open Knowledge Brasil, in partnership with the Faculty of Communication and the Communication, Culture and Amazon Program of the Federal University of Pará (UFPA) and the Marajó Observatory.

Registrations open for 3i Festival
The event on digital and innovative journalism will be held by AJOR (Digital Journalism Association) and will be held at Casa Firjan, in Rio de Janeiro. This year the program will include debate panels, workshops and presentation of success stories to reflect on entrepreneurship and innovation in journalism.

Virtual Meeting - Dialogues for the construction of the Climate Plan – Adaptation
Coordinated by the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MMA), under the technical and scientific guidance of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) and involving 23 ministries, the Plan foresees a broad participation process, with the listening of different social segments. The virtual meeting will take place on May 17 and 24, through the Teams platform. Up to two people per entity can register.

Workshop to cover the COP on biodiversity in Colombia
Other UN Conferences of the Parties are taking place in parallel with the Climate Change Conference, such as the Conference on Biodiversity, which will take place this year in October in the city of Cali, Colombia. This Friday, May 17, at 11 am, Universidad EAN, in partnership with WWF and TNC, will offer a free workshop to prepare for coverage of the event. The workshop will be online, free of charge and with simultaneous translation into Portuguese.

Housing in the Amazon will be the theme of an event at UFPA
The Study and Research Group on City, Housing and Human Space (GEP-CIHAB) of the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), in partnership with the Postgraduate Program in Social Work of the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC/SP) and the Social Work course of the State University of Roraima (UERR), is holding the III Seminar on Housing in the Amazon and the II National Seminar on Social Work and Housing: capital crisis, public policies and resistance of Social Work.

Pará Industry Fair
This year, the 16th Pará Industry Fair includes debates on the major environmental issues that will be the focus of COP 30, which will take place in Belém next year. In addition to the companies' exhibition at the Hangar, the event includes a Technical Congress, with lectures, panels and business rounds.

Registration is now open for Curta Xingu 2024
The Film Festival – CURTA XINGU 2024, which will take place on June 6th and 7th at Campus I of UFPA in Altamira, is now accepting entries. Short films up to 25 minutes long, produced by producers from the middle Xingu region, can compete for the IDAYUÁ Trophy.

Grant for the “Ancestralities Program for Valuing Research 2024 – Environment and Race”
The call for proposals is open to black, mixed race or indigenous individuals over the age of 18. Up to 12 studies that have already been completed or are in progress will be selected. In addition to addressing racism and all related forms of violence, the works must fall within the following themes: territories and territorialities; ecology; natural assets; urban and rural environmental conservation; and climate adaptation.

Scholarship for journalists from the Amazon at the 19th International Congress of Investigative Journalism
The Brazilian Association of Investigative Journalism (Abraji) and Transparency International - Brazil have opened a selection process for six journalists working in the Legal Amazon to participate in the 19th International Congress of Investigative Journalism, which will take place from July 11 to 14, 2024 in São Paulo.

Training Opportunity in Agroforestry in Marajó
The Avina Foundation, through the Marajó Resiliente project, together with Belterra Agroflorestas, a co-implementing organization, is seeking applications for Multipliers of Agroforestry Knowledge, with the aim of strengthening family farming in the face of climate change in the Marajó Archipelago. Those selected will be trained to work in the municipalities of Cachoeira do Arari, Salvaterra and Soure, in the state of Pará. The requirements are people who have knowledge and experience in family farming and community articulation. For three months, those selected will participate in ongoing training with a workload of 100 hours, receiving a stipend to carry out their activities during the training period.

Call for science podcast projects led by black people
The Serrapilheira Institute welcomes podcast projects from all over the country, led by black people, to tell good stories in which science and the scientific method play a central role. Up to 8 projects will be selected, whose teams will participate in a hybrid training program and receive financial support of up to R$50,000 for the production of a season.

Calls for Applications for Cultural Territorial Agents
Part of the strategy for implementing the National Program of Culture Committees (PNCC). Details of the requirements and evaluation and scoring system, workload and other information are available on the website. The selection will cover all regions of the country and will respect the following division: the North region will have 64 vacancies; the Central-West, 56; the Northeast, 175; the Southeast, 203; and the South, 103.

Journalism grant to cover COP 29 in Azerbaijan
The initiative, led by Internews’ Earth Journalism Network, is offering a fellowship to cover the UN climate negotiations (COP29) from 11 to 22 November in Baku, Azerbaijan. Applicants must have a good command of English.

6th Biophilia Prize in Environmental Humanities and Social Sciences
Established by the BBVA Foundation in Spain, the aim of the competition is to recognize contributions from the humanities, communications and social sciences that have shaped society’s perspectives, conceptual frameworks and values in relation to the environment. Entries can cover a variety of disciplines, including journalism, philosophy, ethics, history, law, literary and artistic theory, anthropology, sociology and political science. Entries must be completed by December 31, 2023 and can be in various formats, such as reports, documentaries, essays, articles, monographs, legislative initiatives, multimedia materials, popular science books, exhibitions and activities in any media channel. The winner will receive a bonus of 100,000 euros, a diploma and a commemorative work of art.
