The city of Belém hosted, during the week of September 18-22, the fourth edition of the Ethos 360° Conference of 2023. The event, held at the Estação das Docas Complex, brought together companies, third sector organizations, politicians, lawyers, activists and the general public to discuss topics such as the social and economic development of the Amazon and Belém's preparation to host COP-30 in 2025, in addition to discussing the preservation of biodiversity and protecting local communities.

The Bem da Amazônia Institute was represented by Cleide Pinheiro and Jaqueline Almeida, members of the Institute's Board of Directors and Projects area, respectively.

During the opening conference, the president of the Ethos Institute, Caio Magri, recalled that the institution, which will be celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2023, has defined the fight against inequality as its central theme for the coming years, a historic challenge for Brazil. “When we talk about inequality, unfortunately the North region has the worst indicators in the country. However, we currently have data and information that can and should be used to improve this scenario. We cannot reach 2025 with the same indicators.”

The Ethos Institute is a Civil Society Organization of Public Interest (Oscip) whose mission is to mobilize, raise awareness and help companies manage their businesses in a socially responsible manner, making them partners in the construction of a fair and sustainable society.

According to the Institute’s deputy director, Ana Lúcia Melo, the event seeks to engage business leaders and civil society in the Amazon region around solutions that aim at sustainable development. “We want to encourage more and more companies to act on this agenda through presentations, practices and discussions about the challenges,” emphasizes Ana Lúcia Melo.

Defender Protection - Also as part of the activities in Belém, on the 20th, the Ethos Institute held an expanded meeting with companies (participating from Agropalma, Caixa, Sesc, among others) and human rights and environmental activists to present a project to support people who work to defend rights and create an environment of peace in the region. The meeting was the first meeting to discuss the project, which will be developed in the coming years. The Institute was represented by journalist Jaqueline Almeida.
