The Amazônia Vox project, from the Bem da Amazônia Institute, is among the approximately 40 selected by Google Brazil to join the “Sustainability Lab” program. The initiative, led by Google News Initiative, seeks to train and support journalistic projects that work on environmental coverage and scientific dissemination, especially in the Amazon.
The Sustainability Lab will last three months, providing training, education-based workshops, partnerships and products to the chosen projects, boosting sustainable businesses. The Sustainability Lab also aims to promote knowledge that enables financial sustainability for media outlets, journalists and content creators.
The Amazônia Vox platform aims to facilitate access to sources of Amazonian knowledge for journalists, media outlets and media companies. It also creates a network of freelance communications professionals in the region, fostering entrepreneurship, income generation and opportunities. Both fronts aim to contribute to a greater Amazonian protagonism in narratives about the region. “We are very excited about the learning, networking and returns that our participation in the program will generate for our initiative,” highlights Daniel Nardin, CEO of Instituto Bem da Amazônia and coordinator of Amazônia Vox.
Currently, Amazônia Vox has a temporary website online for voluntary and collaborative registration of sources and freelancers. The search platform is expected to be available in early May, although it is still in the testing phase. The website for access is www.amazoniavox.com.
